I really like this shoe, it is very comfortable and light. It has quickly become my favorite shoe even when running on the street. It provides a bit more cushioning than I had become used to but its an overall great buy.

Great shoe, but not for intended use

I retired my beloved Xodus 3's and took a chance with this shoe for trail running duties, but have since relegated them to use as casual streetwear. They look amazing, let's get that out of the way first, The styling is superb, and I have never had better looking feet in my life. However, for trail running use, I am not sure of EVER using a minimalist-type shoe, even one with the bells and whistles of the Kinvara TR. The ankle support is simply not there, and I managed to tweak my ankle slightly on my first run with these. Secondly, the tread is suitable only for dry or rocky trails. Throw in mud and these turn to ice skates, unlike the Xodus which can nahdle the slipperiest gloop and even dreaded wet grass. The "rock plate" embedded in the sole is a good idea, but makes for a harsh feel on impact, and sounds like you;re running in dress shoes. The rock plate isn't necessary if you switch to a regular style sneaker, like the Xodus, and you get much more cushioning.

Not really a Kinvara.

I currently have the original Kinvaras and the Kinvara 3's, both are great shoes. The Kinvara Trails run slightly narrower, you can really feel the difference in the toe box. I didn't mind that so much, but the shoes are too firm and have a dead feel. No where near the lively feel of the original Kinvaras. I thought the same thing about the Kinvara 3's, which have a great toe box and upper, but also not as lively as the originals (still better then the Trails). I ended up sticking with my Peregrines and am waiting on a pair of the Peregrine 2's to arrive.

At least one size too small

I've owned every previous Kinvara. Size 13 in all fit perfectly. In fact, the Kinvara 3 is almost too big (long). The TR runs so small my toes were all curled up at the end. I can understand a narrow fit, as you don't want trail shoes sliding all around on hills, etc, but I just can't understand why they would be so short. These might actually be great shoes, but I'll never know.

When I first saw these at my local Athlete's Foot, I almost didn't try them on because of how terrible the colors were. Illuminescent green and red are not a match. I haven't caught on to the whole florescent color trend. It feels great though, perfect arch and heel support for running long distances like cross country. Overall you've got a great shoe, but make some simple colors; navy, red, black, goldish yellow.

Ground Control

I like a minimal, stripped down, lightweight shoe, and since it has the EBO protection plate; this is a no-brainer. I love the control it has on dirt and loose rocks. However, I do think a stickier rubber compound would be choice for travel on talus and scrambling. I've felt great letting this shoe fly on the descents with no instability issues. If you're spending 90% of your time shredding dirt and steeper trails, here's your kicks.
My foot runs narrower, has a lower profile and a higher arch than most others. This shoe fits me quite well, even better now that I've put 15 miles in 'em.

Nothing Like Its Cousin

I've worn the Kinvara for some time (currently have two pairs of the 3) and couldn't wait to make the Kinvara TR my new trail shoe. Unfortunately the fit is nothing like the Kinvara (even narrower). However, the biggest issue is that the tread platform feels lke its actually narrower than my foot, so the ride feels unstable.
Dear Saucony - For 2013 just put a more aggressive tread on the bottom of the Kinvara 3 and DO NOTHING ELSE. You'll have a best-selling trail shoe.

Worth it

They're what I expected of a trail minimal shoe - adequate support over rocks, good grip, more cushion than I expected, and great feel of the trail with nice style and good fit consistent with all other Saucony shoes I own. They run a slight bit narrow, but I have a narrow foot so not a big concern for me personally.
These are my first minimal shoes of any kind, and I really like them. I wear them on a trail that has some hills and they feel great going up and down as well as the flats. I try not to wear them on the road much but for a mile here and there they're definitely comfortable on my way to/from the trail, too.

A light, comfortable, low profile trail rocket

I picked up a pair of the Kinvara TR having run in the Kinvara 2 for the last four months. With no break in period I raced a 13km trail race in super wet and muddy conditions.
The shoes were great. The grip was good on the climbs and handled clay and wet rocks well. The light weight and low profile sole has a really connected feel.
For anyone who enjoys trail runs where you can open it up the light weight and great feel provide a great ride.

Unimpressed

I have been wearing Kinvara's since the first edition. I was eager to order the Kinvara TR's when they came out (which was later than Saucony claimed). I finally got them, wore them for a 10 mi trail race (after wearing them once on the road), and received two blisters for the first time in two years. They run much more narrow in the toebox than the road Kinvara. The grip is questionable on wet trails. They do not breathe very well, which could be due to the fact that I'm used to wearing Kinvara 1's and 2's which breathe excellently. I'm sure that they are more durable with the more rugged upper, so I see where the lack of breathability was weighed in on the design.
Overall:
-Shoe is not bad
-Durability is good
-Overpriced (I refuse to buy from Saucony's website anymore)
-Grip is lacking

Great Shoe!!

Just ran 10 miles on single track in my new, out of the box Kinvara TRs and love them. Fit was perfect immediately. I have a long narrow foot and have a hard time finding a minimal trail runner that's narrow enough. I have run for several years in La Sportiva's, but they shortened the last and don't make a big enough shoe. Tried Montrails, but they're too wide. These are better than both of those. Plenty of support and protection from rocks. Fully recommend these.
