Customer reviews for Men's Ride 5

Men's Ride 5

RUN – Neutral A full ounce (30 gm) lighter than its predecessor, the Ride 5 is the most responsive version of this shoe to date. The heel edge is beveled (rounded) for a smoother transition from heel strike to midfoot, and more flex grooves have been carved into the forefoot design for better overall fl exibility. The heel-to-toe offset has been adjusted from 12mm to 8mm to promote a more balanced, efficient stride throughout the gait cycle, while the ProGrid™ technology (previously in heel only) has been extended to the entire foot bed for a more seamless feel. Weight 9.8oz. / 278 gm. See the updates to the Ride 5 (PDF) See the Women’s Ride 5

The Ride 5 is the most comfortable & responsive shoe ever

Buying these shoes was my first venture with Saucony. Historilcally Ive always run with Nike but not anymore since I've had the pleasure of the Ride 5. I'm loving the perfect fit and the combination of extreme comfort without disguising feel and responsiveness. What a wining combination.
As I recently turned 60 years old, Ive seen trends and fads come and go. The Ride 5 is the real deal.

Progrid Ride 5 Saucony running shoes
Posted May 10, 2013
I am a female, 1,79cm tall and I wear a USA 9 mens running shoe. I bought a pair of Ride 5's about 2 hours ago, which I am wearing right now just to get a feel for them. They feel very comfortable, but as yet I have not run in them. I was undecided as to whether to keep the Ride 5's or whether I should change them for the Triumph 10's. After reading the comments I have decided to keep the Ride 5's.

My Holy Grail

PostedApril 1, 2013
I Run: Competitively
I Use This Product For: Running
I've run in just about everything over the past 10 months / 1500 miles. I've run streets, paved trails, gravel trails, snow covered trails, dirt trails, and climbed over 40,000 feet. I've gone full minimal (toe shoes), I've gone intro to minimal (4mm drop), I've gone super cushioned and a few in between.
I guess the benefit of 150-200mi per month is that I'm switching shoes every 2 months. Even though consistency is a big thing for me, whenever I hear about something new, I feel like I have to try it. So I do, and every time I venture out to something new, I always come back to the Ride's. Whether it's been injury thats pushed me back, or just feeling sluggish, it's the ONLY shoe I know can count on. Best I've ever run in.

Definitely not like its RIDE predecessors

I've been buying the RIDE model from Saucony for years. I've got several pairs of Ride 2's, 3's and 4's. Those models were a perfect fit for my wide foot. I bought the Ride 5 online and am completely disappointed in the fit. Perhaps I just got a factory reject pair that made it past inspectors, but the Ride 5s I received do NOT fit like the previous models. I run a lot and buy new shoes twice a year. I'm completely disappointed in my purchase of Ride 5. I'll spend part of this weekend trying to find a new brand or model -- because the 5s I received are tight -- way too tight. And, they pinch across the bindings on the inside right foot to the point where I had to stop mid-run.
Pretty unhappy about this -- because I loved the previous models so much.

Contact company?
Posted May 2, 2013
Yo, dude. Did you try to contact the company? Did you try to return them? I also have been wearing Ride's for years and my 5's fit just as well as my 4's. I've actually returned a pair of 4's that the sole started to separate from the shoe after only 1 month of wearing. They sent me a new pair of 5's in place of them!

Indeed - something has gone wrong with this model
Posted March 1, 2013
I fully agree with this post, I have been running on RIDE for the last 5 years and version 5 is too tight. I bought a 2nd pair of the wide version and I still get the same rubbing on my small toe. On top of that the sole has worn out extremely faster than before. Has Saucony gone too far trying to make it lighter and worse shoe??

Great shoe all around

This shoe is great. I ran in minimalist style shoes for a couple years, and then felt the effects on my knees. I then switched to Asics, which are also great, but the 12mm drop really messed up my legs. So later on, I was recommended these Sauconys with an 8mm drop, They are by far the best thing that ever happened to my training, enough support and cushion to absorb the shock, yet a small enough drop that reminds me of a minimalist style shoe. With this 8mm drop, the sprints are amazing, the responsiveness is great, and the long distance runs feel very comfortable. No complaints from this guy.

Don't change a thing

I have worn Sauconys exclusively for my entire adult running life, and have had every version of the Ride shoe beginning with the original Ride. Each year I have anxiously awaited the arrival of the new (and not always improved) version of the Ride. I must admit, I have been incredibly pleased with the changes made to the Ride 5 (from the previous version Ride 4). The 12mm to 8mm drop is perfect for neutral runners and the lightness, yet responsiveness, of the shoe is great. I trained for the Ironman Wisconsin in them and had wonderful results! Definitely recommend the Ride 5!!! (Now, my only fear is that the shoe engineers will once again tinker with the shoe and ruin what gains they have made.)

Men's Ride 5

PostedNovember 5, 2012

The Men's Ride 5 is an outstanding product. I am 74 inches tall and weigh 195 pounds. I wanted a shoe to drop my heel-to-toe offset by 4mm as I try to transition to more minimalist type shoes. This is my first Saucony shoe and I am very pleased with it after two five-mile runs (one run on a hard pack trail and the other on pavement). It is a very light shoe, but it feels great and absorbs the pounding. The shoe fits well and there was no break-in period needed. I made the choice to purchase these shoes after much research. The detailed information on the Saucony website and the ease of navigation made my choice very easy. I am interested in seeing how the shoe holds up in 3 to 6 months of running, but I think I will still be happy.

Black and orange? Don't believe it - this shoe is purple!

Okay, I'll admit it. Once I've settled on a shoe - and every running shoe I've owned for the past 10+ years has been Saucony - my final decision is based on color.
This shoe is everything I was looking for - except black.
Performance - exceptional.
Style - call it what it is: purple.

For me my issues are little more cushy than I little and does not seem to be as snug as I like. I rotate between Nike Air Pegusas & the Ride. Have great runs in both but on the days after using the Ride my legs seem sorer.

Excellent training shoe

PostedOctober 1, 2012
I Run: Competitively, For fun, To train for another sport, To set a personal best, To stay in shape
I Use This Product For: Running
I have about 30 miles on my new Ride 5's, including one 21 mile run. I was training in the Kinvara 3, but felt I needed a bit extra cushion for my marathon training. The Ride 5 fits like a traditional running shoe, but the 8mm heel/toe drop get that chunky heel out of the way. The heel/toe drop on the Saucony feels better than that on the New Balance 890v2. That shoe has a much less cushioned forefoot. I could feel every stone and acorn, which made running on even the most groomed trails difficult. The Ride 5 has more substantial cushioning, more firm than the 890v2, but it still feels great.
It's definitely more substantial than the Kinvara 3, but that's why I bought it. The fit is very similar and loosened up really fast. I only had about 10 miles on the shoe prior to my 21 mile long run, so I can't comment on durability. They actually feel very similar to the Saucony Ride 2, so if you were a fan of that shoe, this will fit the bill.

I have been getting this running sneaker for years. I have always been very pleased with the fit,how it cushions my heel and the durability. However, this last pair is not the same excellant quality.Specifically, the shoe strings(a minor thing until you try to tie your sneakers)are very difficult to tie. Instead of the thick round strings of the past shoes, these are flat. I have a devil of a time tieing them.Mike

Great, versatile shoe

PostedSeptember 10, 2012
I Run: As a social activity, For fun, To set a personal best
I Use This Product For: Running, Racing
Wore the Ride 4's before the new version and was excited to try out the lower heel-to-toe drop as well as the lighter weight. The shoe did not disappoint. The Ride 5 maintains all of the 4's comfort, but with lower heel-to-toe drop it seems to transition to toe-off much better. I am a mid-foot striker, and the 5 provides plenty of cushion where it counts, but still allows for plenty of feel. The lighter weight makes a huge difference, making the shoe versatile enough for both speed work and long runs. Durability has not really been an issue. While the 5's may wear a slight bit faster than the 4's, I have 225 miles on a pair, and there is plenty of tread left on the tires. The only criticism I have is the lay-flat laces. When they lay flat they look great; however, I find that they frequently twist. While it does not affect performance, it is a little annoying. Overall, if you like the Ride 4's, you should not be disappointed in the 5's. I've just ordered my second pair.

Great for orthotic wearing overpronator

PostedSeptember 8, 2012
I Run: Competitively, To stay in shape
I Use This Product For: Running
When I was first introduced to this shoe at a specialty running store I believed I need a motion control shoe. I saw myself run on treadmill wearing this shoe and was amazed I landed straight. I am a severe over pronator with a history of injuries.
The build of this shoe has helped land easier on the mid-foot and has been easy on my legs. The shoe is light and I have been able to pick up speed. Generally, my legs do not feel heavy in these shoes.
I highly recommend the shoes and to all the orthotic wearers out there, this neutral my be just right for you.
