Women's Ride 5

RUN – Neutral A full ounce (30gm) lighter than its predecessor, the Ride 5 is the most responsive version of this shoe to date. The heel edge is beveled (rounded) for a smoother transition from heel strike to midfoot, and more flex grooves have been carved into the forefoot design for better overall fl exibility. The heel-to-toe offset has been adjusted from 12mm to 8mm to promote a more balanced, efficient stride throughout the gait cycle, while the ProGrid™ technology (previously in heel only) has been extended to the entire foot bed for a more seamless feel. Best Shoe I have EVER owned!

This was my first time getting fitted for a running shoe, but I have always considered myself a bit of a runner. I traditionally wore a lot of minimalist type Nikes and just assumed running through a little pain was all part of it. Since getting these shoes I have not had an ache yet and they are so enjoyable I have doubled my daily distance! They are like running on air! I definitely recommend them! My only complaint is the design. Hopefully, they have cuter colors when I wear these babies out and get another pair.

Favorite shoes for high mileage!

PostedMay 31, 2013
I Run: Competitively
I Use This Product For: Running
I have had 2 pairs of the ride 5 and I am ready to get a 3rd pair. I have run a lot of high mileage in these shoes and love them. They provide a nice amount of cushion to the bottom of the foot that never seems to decrease even after the couple hundred miles I have run in each pair. I like the 8mm toe to heel rise I think it is the prefect amount for high mileage to keep your gate a forefoot strike. It was not too much that the shoes felt bulky or like your feet can't move freely. It also was not too little. I'd recommend replacing these shoes after you've run a couple hundred miles, as all the tread starts to wear away. Ive had a great experiance in these shoes while running in a highly competitive cross country program with high mileage and a copetitve track season. I started high mileage training for the first time in my first pair of these shoes and never got any injuries. These are amazing shoes. Not only me ut many runners on my team love these shoes and run in them all the time. I'd highly recommend these shoes to anyone. My only problem is that there arent a ton of fun, bright color schemes for this style shoe.

Loved them til they broke!

This was my first experience with buying a full priced running shoe after being fitted at a running store. I was very excited to have my new shoes and I worked out with them 4-5 times a week (mostly elliptical). After just 5 weeks of wear the back heel on the left shoe collapsed making it uncomfortable to wear and I also found that these shoes increased my corn problems a lot! I wanted to love these shoes because they were so comfortable at first, but was very unhappy with the quality I got for the price.

Decent shoe, but does not stay true to the awesomeness of its predecessors

I'm a Ride loyalist - I own the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations. I've put about 100 miles on this shoe now and I have to agree with the consensus here: this isn't a terrible shoe, but it is completely different than the previous generations. If you've never owned a Ride before, this'll might be a really great, good looking running shoe for you. But for all the loyalists like myself, the reduced heel is a big change. I wouldn't consider myself a heavy heel striker, but I've noticed some foot strain and aches after taking this shoe out for a 14 mile run. For 5-8 mile runs, it's fine. I'm not sure why Saucony decided to make such drastic updates - why call it the Ride at all? Why not create a new model and call it the "Glide" or something, since the updates appear to move toward a more minimalist type of shoe? For the amount of money and distance training I do, I can't justify purchasing this shoe again - it just doesn't provide enough support on the long runs. I hope Saucony reverts to the original model and takes our reviewer suggestions to heart, because I do feel sad that I will have to abandon this shoe. It's been my go to shoe for years.

I agree

I had the 4 and they were amazing and then I got the five in January and after a couple runs and the half marathon, I am now injured, too much strain on my achilles caused my tibial tendon to pull, they said that the 6 (which was just released) should be back to what the 4 was, hopefully they are correct.

I run about four times per week with my dog. This is my second pair of Ride 5. They feel like slippers, because they have so much cushion. I have a high arch and narrow feet and these shoes fit me perfectly. I decided to order another pair through Saucony because I wanted different color options than what was being offered in stores. I love my new shoes and my "wild" color!

Hands down best shoes I've had!

I am in love with my ride 5, I have four pairs. Two safely in my closet awaiting the death of my current pairs... I never ran in the previous rides (1-4), I was a Brooks girl then, so I can't compare but these shoes really are awesome. They're perfect! It's like running on clouds! I'm a mid striker, so all you heel strikers out there, this may not be the shoe for you. The only possible down side may be durability, for such a lightweight shoe that may be the trade off , but my pockets will still hurt. I'm at around 200 miles on TWO pairs, and it looks like maybe I'll get another 200 if I'm lucky. (that's only 200 miles per pair).
We'll see.
But regardless, I HIGHLY recommend them. Running has never felt so good!

I have crazy feet. My left is truly wide and my right is normal. This is very hard to find something that works with out me having to buy 2 separate pairs. I also have a high instep so my feet go numb from the pressure of the shoe laces.... Well at least they used to. Now that I run in these I have no issues. I am also known to be a heal striker but i have corrected this since the shoe only has an 8mm drop. I actually enjoy running now! My feet feel great. Thank you so much for making a shoe like this. Please don't change it. And keep the fun and crazy colors coming! A neon green would be amazing!

Ride 4 are WAY better!
Posted May 12, 2013
I love Saucony and wore out my ride 4s so naturally bought the cool pink Ride 5 sneaks.. Only to find the fit is completely different - they sit about an inch below my ankle bone and my heel continues to slip out the back due to the shallow depth - they are properly fit lengthwise and are even a half size smaller than my Ride 4s.. My verdict: I strongly dislike them and only can wear them for short outings (i.e.,not walks or runs). Am currently hunting for some old stock of the Ride 4s!

I have bought Rides for several years, but this newest version is a disappointment. There isn't enough cushion anymore and the durability has gone way down. It doesn't take long for the tread to wear down.

It has taken me forever to fall in love with that perfect shoe but this one is it! I won't even bother trying on anything but Saucony. The Ride 5 provides stability and cushion without being too heavy...a huge plus when I get anywhere over 4-5 miles. The only thing I ask for is more color options!

These shoes are FABULOUS!! I realized my old Ride 3 were worn out 1 week before my 1/2 marathon. I went and got these and I didn't have to break them in and NO blisters at all!! After the 1/2 marathon with NEW shoes my feet felt FABULOUS!! I will continue to buy these shoes.

Have loved the Ride for years. I have high insteps, really high arches and wide feet. I was SO disappointed when I got the 5. Returned it after two trial runs. It is nothing like previous versions. So question is, why not make it a new model and keep the Ride the way it was??People continue to buy the same model for a reason... It works for them. So hoping the "real" Ride returns.

Why Change?
Posted April 3, 2013
Please, please bring back the features of the ProGrid Ride 1-4! Some of us need the higher arch and extra cushioning provided in the previous versions of this shoe. Not all of us run flat footed! I am now looking at other brands and that is a tragedy.

I had been having a lot of pain in the achilles and above, and some calf pain. My new Mirage 2's were not working out as the previous version had so I went shopping for a new shoe. The Saucony Guide 5 was both too long and too wide, which was very odd as I've worn the same size for many years. I went on to try Brooks Ghost, which hurt my feet. I finally got to the Ride 5. Out of the box I ran 7 miles. I had to stretch the calf/achilles each of the first 3 miles, but was good the rest of the run. I did experience the burning under the balls of my feet, but just on that first run and not since. I just ran a 10k in them, with a PR, and could not be happier. No pain! I am a slight overpronator, but I supinate when I stand and run.

Recent return to neutral runners

PostedMarch 11, 2013
I Run: To stay in shape
I Use This Product For: Running
For the past few years, I've been running in shoes to alleviate pronation...which I don't do. I recently learned that that type of shoe can cause injuries like shin splints for neutral runners. That explains my bouts with shin splints...
Anyway, I ordered these, in spite of reviews, and I'm relatively pleased. There is sufficient cushion, however, I think I may need to replace the insole for more arch support. I may also replace the laces as the stretchy laces make the shoe feel a little too loose on my foot and I find myself adjusting them often during my run.

Huge disappointment to long time Ride fan

PostedMarch 6, 2013
I Use This Product For: Running
This shoe should have been completely renamed. I knew the drop had been reduced but didn't expect this new version to completely change my mechanics to the point of discomfort. I've had literally dozens of previous Ride models and loved them for all distances up to 100 miles endurance runs. Almost immediately the Ride 5 was rubbing the bottom of my little toes, within 2 miles hotspots on the balls of my feet that remained tender the next day and heel slippage. All this in just a 3.5 mile run. I'm sure there are people who will like this shoe but if you are a previous Ride user they are no where close to the same.

Heels support collapsed immediately

PostedMarch 1, 2013
I Run: Competitively, For fun, To set a personal best, To stay in shape
I've had several pairs of Progrid Ride shoes in the past and had been very happy with them. The Ride 5, however, only lasted about 100 miles before they started to disintegrate. The worst of it is that the heel support in the back of the shoes caved in. Now when I wear the shoes, I feel like I have something bunched up against the back of my heel, causing rubbing and blistering that I've never had before. I am hoping this pair is just a fluke, but I'm seriously considering moving on to another model entirely.

Cushioning gone!

PostedFebruary 25, 2013
This is the only shoe I can wear with my wide width and high arch. But with the Ride 5, I can't wear Saucony anymore. The cushioning under my feet feels like it is gone. I feel like I'm barefoot running, not good for my foot. Please bring back the previous shoes. What am I suppose to do? Anyone have suggestions for another shoe?

I feel the same way. My foot isn't wide but I do have a high arch. I only use this for walking and have an old pair of Ride 4's for running. Hope they hurry with a Ride 6 comparable to all the past designs. I feel the new shoe is wider in the toe box and that the back of the shoes comes up too high. I don't like the extra lacing hole either.
