For me the trex performs as advertised. I've been doing a high intensity cardio/plyometric workout and needed a shoe that offered more side to side support and toe box cushioning. The trex has been perfect. Very lightweight, flexible, and very supportive. Excellent in absorbing the impact on all the moves in the workout.

I am a personal trainer and a strength coach and basically spend my entire day in the gym working.When it comes to running, I only wear Saucony and have been extremely happy with their shoes. People need to understand that their is a difference in running/distance cardio vs agility drills, strength training, cross fit, etc. For the general public, it is okay to wear running shoes to lift and do agility workouts but shoes made for this style of training do not make a great running shoe. This shoe (the ProGrid Trex) is made for training and lifting. I have been very happy with this shoe. I wear them all day while working and on my feet and then do my exercises in them too and they give great stability for lunges, squats, lateral bounds, jumps, etc. When I go to run and do some distance work, I switch to my Saucony Ride 4's. I could understand peoples complaints about this shoe not being great for running, but thats not what its made for. So grading the shoe based on what it is made to do... A+.

It pains me to have to write a negative review about a company I have been loyal and true to for over 10 years, but the ProGrid Trex fell very short of my expectations. Being an avid runner and looking to get back into the gym after training for a half-marathon, I was looking for a shoe that did exactly what Saucony advertised in the ProGrid...provide a shoe for runners that were also weightlifing (e.g. squats, lunges, etc.). I was hesitant to make the purchase since I have only purchased shoes for running from Saucony, but I was sold on the video and advertising. I did not expect Saucony to come out with another style of shoe that did not serve its stated purpose.
First, the shoe actually ran 1/2 size too small, but since it was a different style and for a different application, I had to test them out and determine if perhaps this was part of the design intended to enhance weigh training. Unfortunately after my workout, my toes were sore. After a second workout, I had the same results. My workouts include a 1-2 mile run followed by weight training.
Next, the outside fabric of the shoe itself is a bit stretchy and flimsy appears almost cheap. These characteristics do not lend themselves particular well for weight training. The support is just not there. However, I will comment that the sole does provide adequate support, but this is severely compromised in light of the weak fabric. Honestly, other Saucony running shoes provide a better fabric that is more resilient. After a third workout, I can already see these shoes will not last.
The style is a bit lacking than what I am used to in comparison to other running shoes, but this is not a huge concern to me. I am using the shoes to get into the gym and get a good workout run and weightlifting workout which is where I think it falls short.
Ultimately, Saucony missed the mark in the ProGrid which is very disappointing. I purchased against my better judgement thinking that I only purchase Saucony for running, but I did not expect Saucony to roll out a different style of shoe that missed its true function.
Final verdict: Do not buy. Saucony needs to revisit the drawing board and re-evaluate if they really plan to come out with a running shoe intended to cater to weightlifting. This shoe does not deliver on its intended functionality.
