Should be the official Tough Mudder shoe!

PostedApril 1, 2012

I Use This Product For: Running
For those searching for the best option for Tough Mudder, this is the one! I just completed my first TM in Dallas on 3-31-12. These shoes gave me a significant advantage over my fellow mudders. While others were sliding around and falling (sometimes very hard on their backs), my footing was solid. Even as we had to climb steep, slick, muddy hills, many clawed their way up on hands and knees or went off to the side for better footing. With the confidence in these shoes, I would simply walk straight up the middle of the hill without putting my hands on the ground. It was really pretty crazy that the shoes performed that well. Also, the shoes drained fast when exiting each water obstacle and no time did they feel heavy on my feet. At the end of race, I simply hosed them off and they were still in great shape, quite durable. The icing on the cake is that the shoe is offered in the orange/black TM colors. Future mudders are scouring the internet for tips on the race...buying these shoes is my #1 tip. (#2 is heavy training on your calves!)

I bought these shoes for an unconventional reason: at 51 I have osteo-arthritis in my ankle and can't run (no problem since I abominate running). I however maintain fitness by rowing and now have no reason to wear heavily-cushioned running shoes since they essentially absorb a fraction of my leg drive. since I can't row in bare feet I looked for "minimus" style shoes that I could wear without socks. the Saucony Peregrine is the most conventional looking of the lot. they're a little snug but otherwise I've been happy with them.

Great Shoe

I wore the Exodus previously, but was disappointed by its clumsy feel. After wearing the Kinvara for a couple years I was excited to try out the Peregrine. First run was an eight miler and the shoes felt great out of the box. Going to use them for an upcoming ultra. I would like to see them in some fun colors.

Thanks Saucony for taking the time to make a minimal shoe for the year around runner. The Peregrine looks to be the ideal show to take me through the winter months here in Colorado. However, your not making a 15. I am hooked on the Kinvara and think its great. But we both know, that shoe won't hold up in winter.
So I am asking, please, please fulfill the rest of your minimal line with 15's. Its not right to get the clydesdales onboard with the minimal shoes and tell them to take a season off because for lack of sizing.

Amazing shoe, great performance on road and trail

This is my first pair of trail running shoes. I got them at a local running store, and they were the clear winner among 12 or so pairs I tried on. They felt as though they were custom fitted to my feet the moment I laced them up the first time, and there was never any break-in period. They were perfect out of the box!
I ran with them on roads, an indoor track, paved and gravel trails, and they felt wonderful. Just the right amount of cushion and terrific feel for the ground. The grip is terrific, and they are really quiet when running. I used them on the Bald Eagle Mountain Megatransect on a really rainy, muddy day, and while everyone else was slipping on the mud, my footing stayed secure.
The shoes are ultra-breathable, so much that I can feel the breeze on my feet when using them. Puddles and streams that soak your shoes are drained within a couple minutes.
TL;DR: These shoes are awesome and have ruined me for every other pair of shoes I have owned or will own in the future.

I have been wearing the Kinvara as my main trainer and was looking for something that would be able to handle the weather and the gravel roads. This shoe does just that. I do not feel the rocks on the roads. I am looking for to see how they handle the winter weather.

Amazing traction

The shoe has amazing traction. I run on all types of trails from mud to rocks. This shoe is fantastic. My only issue is after only 3 uses, the sole at the tip of the toe started to peel off a little. I have since run 3 months and countless training and races and so far I have not noticed any more peeling back of the sole which is good but I am wondering when it will just peel back all the way.

If I were you, I’d head over to MEC and pick up some McNett shoe repair stuff. While the product description mentions only that it repairs stitching, if you read the reviews you’ll see that folks are using it for precisely the sort of issue you’ve described

First time in these they went through a trail system that had been thoroughly beaten up do to sever weather. Lots of washouts, exposed roots, gravel and rock that had been deposited by flood water and really uneven and choppy trails. I never felt like these shoes wouldn't support me through it. Since, they have been on all kinds of surfaces and they are proving to be really solid. No complaints at all.

Love this shoe! Extremely light, strong and comfortable trail running shoe. Fit like a glove. However, I am not a big fan of the exterior design. It's the arch support, dropped heel, and perfection in the sole and tread thickness leave me and my feet in awe.
One only complaint is the material smells after use. Never had such a strange smelling shoe before. Consequentially, I always place it in the sunlight or near dry heat after use.

Excellent Light Weight Trail Shoe

PostedAugust 1, 2011

I've never cared for Saucony shoes until now. Trail shoes in the "minimal" category usually offer little to no protection on rocky or technical trails. This shoe is lightweight and provides just the right amount of protection. I've run about 100 miles so far without any issues. Highly recommended!

Good shoes, but have one spot for improvement

PostedJuly 13, 2011
I Run: As a social activity, To set a personal best, To stay in shape
I Use This Product For: Running
I have 38 miles in these shoes in the past 2 week, including an 11 mile race on rocks, loose dirt, mud, roots and loose gravel. I like the grip and stability of the shoes, along with the lighter weight. I was worried I would have issues when I get tired on my run and revert to my heel strike ways, but it has not been an issue, even on my longer runs.
The issue keeping me from giving a full five star rating is the smell. I would have expected anti-bacterial and "stink" reducing features in this shoe. All of my runs have been with socks on, but most of the time my shoes end up wet, either from water crossings or from the humidity we have been experiencing in Ohio this past month. I air dry my shoes in the sun after a run, not just throw them in the closet until the next run. If there were something to reduce the funk, this would be a full five star shoe all the way down the ratings.
I would recommend this shoe for someone who is considering minimalist shoes, but wants the training wheels to determine if the switch is a good idea. I may notmove to the total minimalist shoe. Just fix the stink!

Great tread pattern!

PostedJuly 7, 2011

I ordered this shoe in 10.5 because people were saying that it ran about a half size too big. They came in the mail and I put them on and discovered they were too snug; I normally wear an 11. I sent them back and in 5 days I recieved the 11 which I would say is true to size. On flat or uphill these shoes are amazing. The tread pattern and size is great(no slippage at all), they are light weight, and very breathable. The issue I have is going downhill. The shoes are a little pointy and so my toes tend to jam in the front of the shoe. I have narrow feet and I don't feel that is the issue. Just a tad to pointy at the toes which leads to a slightly uncomfortable downhill experience. 3 stars for flat and uphill and minus two for downhill toe death!

I also have never been a fan of saucony shoes until now. Wore this shoe without socks and had a fantastic time on the trails. Just the right amount of cushioning for the long haul and rock proctection. 4mm heel drop is the perfect height. Please do not go any lower. It is the perfect height for midfoot to forefoot running on any terrain.

After much success with a pair of Kinvara's I decided to shun my old goto trail shoes and try these out. Very glad that I did. They are great at just about every kind of terrain I have tried them. It is wonderful to have a road/trail (Kinvara/Peregrine) shoe setup that fits in a similar fashion. Also finding the Peregrine to be great for ultra light backpacking. A buddy of mine just purchsed 8 pairs for a yo-yo on the Long Trail followed by SOBO on the AT.

Great shoe for trails

I got this shoe after liking the Kinvara. I do about half my miles on trails, especially mountain trails in Colorado, so it seemed like a good option.
The Peregrine was great right out of the box. It has a snug but comfortable fit. On my first run I did a 13 mile trail run in the Colorado foothills. It held up great and was incredibly comfortable - my feet felt great for the entire run. The shoe handles rocky trails very well.
