Great Track Shoes

I compete in the Master's Pentathlon and I need a racing flat for the 1500 that doubles as a training shoe. The Fastwitch is totally awesome!!!! I use it for hurdle drills, for speed work, and for track races between 1500 and 5000.
I am 6'2", 180#, so this shoe does not work for me in a road race, but does on XC trails. It's also great on indoor tracks where spikes are not permitted.
Saucony: please bring back the white with lime-green trim :)

To be honest, I bought this shoe mostly for its light weight. Packing for world travel requires going as light as possible, and shoes are usually the heaviest part of my luggage. Much to my surprise, not only was the Fastwitch 5 ultra-light, but incredibly comfortable to walk in. They are like going barefoot! Saucony fits my foot better than all other athletic shoes, and the Fastwitch is no exception. I just bought another pair to wear in a walking tour of Paris this spring and Japan in the fall! One caveat, they run VERY small. I am wearing 1 1/2 size larger than my Clarks, and it is a perfect fit. Incredible shoe.

Lightweight and fast road shoe with great stability

I am a 5'8" 180 lbs male with an athletic build, with low feet arches that cause my feet to overpronate. I adopted minimalist running in April of 2012 in an attempt to eliminate knee and back pain while running and training. I threw away my clunky running shoes and bought the five fingers which fixed my running form to a mid and forefoot running style, but they weren't good for longer distances as I required cushioning. My research lead me to the Fastwitch 5. I've been using them for 4 months and I LOVE them. They hug my feet extremely well and have a minimalist feel since they are really light. The soles are perfect, not thick but still provide good cushioning (I run mid-distance, 5k and 10k). Best of all, I keep the mid and fore foot form while running, and I can run faster in them than in any other running shoe I've owned. Great product!

I need a light stability shoe.
I do olympic triathlons.
I didn't have the old versions to compare.
I do have the type a4 racing shoe (for the 5K run, so my arch still handels the neutral shoe).
I bought the fastwitch5 to have a light training / racing shoe that can hold up the 10K run at the end of a triathlon, without hurting my arch.
SO, after all this ETHOS:
my first training run with them was a 12K in a 4:38 pace. which was intense as you can understand - felt really good!
it was like running with a shoe that understands you from the begining!
I can't compare it to the old versions, but this shoe is
State of the art!

I, like others, have been a loyal Fastwitch runner and was keen on seeing the evolution of this edition. I read the reviews before and decided to purchase it again as well as the Grid A5 and the Kinvara 3 to compare. Coincidentally, I have a similar reinforcing review of others that I have read on here, and I also find it curious that it comes from most of the other runners who are size 13. I found the toe box to be just slightly tight/narrow -- not a deal breaker but just not quite as expandable/mesh like as previous versions. I'm not sure if this is the overall size/length or just the narrow-ness in the front end. The shoe also seemed a touch more rigid than the previous versions. It has a very fixed sole to it. This is very good on longer runs as it offers support. As for the Grid A5 this was way too rigid and inflexible and I returned this pair. The Kinvara was the other direction -- more cushiony and plush with a wider toe box however, the back is also higher near the Achilles. I also felt this shoe was a bit too "soft". I kept this pair for runs that I might want more comfort in and will go between the two pairs. There isn't anything really negative to say about this model but there is nothing really amazing about it either. If you spread your toes transversely when you run you might feel a bit cramped.

I loved the fastwitch until now! Like many of the other reviewers who have been loyal to this line since the begining, the new update is horrible. More narrow in the toe box, and stiffer, which are the two biggest problems for me. The smaller drop is no problem for me and the new outsole for added durability is nice. But lets be honest, this shoe is so far from the 4 and previous models that it shouldn't even be called Fastwitch, this is a completely different shoe. It doesn't ride the same or feel the same to previous models, not even close. The original fastwitch line was my dream shoe and now I am left searching and having no luck at all finding something to replace it...

This is my 2nd pair of Saucony shoes, my first pair being the Mirage. Training for fall marathon in Mirage and just got Fastwitch 5 to finish up training runs and race with. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! This will be my shoe, hope it never changes! Light, fast and just the right amout of support. They look great and feel even better.

I run anywhere from 20 to 40 miles a week and needed a shoe that would hold up but be very light and quick. This shoe brought it. I've done half marathons in them and even a mud run and had them for about a year now and they still work great.

I have problems to find shoes that are narrow enough for my feet, but the Fastwitch 5 fits well.
Durability of the Fastwitch 5 is better than my other Saucony types (e.g. Omni 9, Omni 10, Hurricane 14,...).
I do not have any problems with the 4mm offset.
I am looking forward to the Fastwitch 6.
If it takes too long for them to arrive in Europe (are way behind and also limited number of colours available...) I will definitly buy another pair of Fastwitch 5's.

When I first put the shoes on they felt a little snug in the to and mid foot area. After about 1/2 mile into the run the shoes felt like they molded to my foot. Now they feel perfect everytime I put them on. The shoes provide a smooth ride and even protect the foot from rocks and other debris in the road.

Preface: I am 5'10" 210lbs. I originally ran in the Kinvaras becasue they felt like pillows. The kinvara's are light and breezy on your feet. I switched to the 5's because they had a little more support and were still lightweight. They work very well. Try to the find the bright green because they are SOOOO AWESOME! This is my 2nd pair of 5's. For me they last about 400 miles which isn't bad. I trained and ran a 1/2 among other races in them and they felt pretty good. Them being light helps a lot for the long runs. I am training for an olympic triathlon now and they slip on pretty fast with the lasces tied. I would recommend these for a midfoot or forefoot striker defenatly. Note: they do not get good traction when the streets are wet out or if you are running on trails.

In two two years I set PR's in every distance from 10K through marathon (2:54). Then my fastwitch 4's were toast so I got the 5's. This is a completely different shoe other than the basic weight. It still provides the same stability but the tread and cushion and ride are all totally different. First, they are not as soft on the legs at the 4s leaving me with very sore feet at the end of even a half marathon. The cushion is pretty hard - for me, only good enough for 10k or less whereas I could race the 4s right through the marathon distance with no problem. They ride like a much lighter shoe and they leave you feeling that way - ouch!

Why did you have to and change the model of a perfectly built shoe!? Since the birth of the Fastwitch I have run in them and have bought over 30 pairs. Now that is it changed and with no other shoe you have that feels the same, I was forced to purchase another brand. That was a sad moment for me after being a loyal Saucony fan for 20 years. You have fallen short on this Fastwitch 5 - sad, but true.

feels weird having less than positive comments about the fastwitch as I loved them untill I bought a pair of 5s. Please consider going back!
